TOURNAMENT DATES:
July 13 -18, 2012.
SITES:
Lakota West High School (Tournament Headquarters), Lakota East High School, Lakota Ridge Jr. High School, Fairfield High School, Courts4Sports, and Sports Plus.
GRADE DETERMINATION:
7th Grade - An athlete must be in the 7th grade as of October 1, 2011 and can be no older than 14 on August 31, 2012. If an athlete wishes to play down a grade division, please verify if they are eligible based on the criteria in the Rule Book.
ENTRY DEADLINE:
All materials must be RECEIVED via Online Registration by Thursday, June 28, 2012.
Entry fees must be submitted via Online Roster System. All participating teams must have a roster submitted online at www.aaugirlsbasketball.org.
TOURNAMENT ROSTER:
All athletes and non-athletes allowed on the bench must hold a current AAU membership. A team that qualifies for a National Championship Tournament may add a maximum of seven (7) players to its District Roster for the purpose of participating in the National Tournaments.
Pick-up/replacement players listed on the roster are subject to the following restrictions: These players must have been able to satisfy all eligibility requirements (regarding grade, age, residence, etc.) unless approved by the Eligibility Committee. Teams may not add players from the rosters of other teams advancing to the National Championship Tournament. A team advancing to a Division I National Championship may not add a player from another team advancing to a Div. I National Championship in the same age group without the written permission of the Eligibility Committee.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT:
Teams will be seeded according to last year’s 6th grade finish. National Championships will have a maximum of five (5) playing days. The bracket will operate as follows:
1. First and second days (July 14-15) will be pool play.
2. The top two (2) teams in each pool advance to the National Championship Tournament Bracket.
3. The balance of teams will advance to the Classic Tournament Bracket.
4. Upon a team's first loss in the Tournament they will go into a consolation bracket in their respective tournament and are eliminated from competing for the medal round in that tournament.
5. Upon the second loss in the consolation bracket the team is eliminated from further competition in the tournament.
-A coach from each team wishing to continue in either the Championship or Classic bracket may be required to check-in with the Tournament Office at the conclusion of pool play to determine their position.
GAME FORMAT:
The 7th grade division plays Four (4) 8 minute quarters, 5 minute halftime/warm-up and 4 minute overtime. No game will start before its scheduled time. There will be a minimum 5-minute warm-up between games. A forfeit shall be declared if a team fails to appear with at least five (5) eligible players at game time. Thirteen to zero (13-0) shall be the recorded score. The 28.5 Rawlings basketball will be used.
MERCY RULE:
If a team is up by 15 points or more, in the 2nd and 3rd grade, the leading team cannot press until the offensive team reaches the three point line.In addition, a running clock will be used in the second half when a team is behind by 30 or more points. Regular rules will return if at any time the spread falls below 30 points. The losing coach may opt to ignore this rule at any time.
DRAWING FOR POOLS:
A member of the AAU Girls Basketball Executive Committee will oversee the drawing of teams into pools approximately 5 days after the entry deadline. You can view the results of the draw on the Internet www.aaugirlsbasketball.org and www.aauinbutlercounty.com. No phone calls, please.
REGISTRATION:
All teams will be assigned a registration time. To be on the safe side, transportation arrangements should be made so that all team members could be present by the start of registration, 10:00 a.m., Friday July 13, 2012 at Tournament Headquarters, Lakota West High School. Each team must have at least one (1) coach listed (with AAU numbers), but not more than four (4) on the Official Team Roster. Each person listed on the Official Team Roster must present their AAU membership card at registration. Your time for registration will be assigned upon receipt of entry and posted on www.aaugirlsbasketball.org. and www.aauinbutlercounty.com.
AAU MEMBERSHIP:
All players and coaches on the bench must have current membership within the AAU and present their cards at registration.
COACHES' MEETING:
A coach from each team must attend a coaches’ meetings Friday, July 13th at 4:30 pm at the Cintas Center; site of Opening Ceremonies. . (1624 Herald Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45207) following registration. After pool play coaches must verify your placement in the bracket by coming by the tournament office or contacting the Tournament Director or Lead Commissioner.
RULES OF PLAY:
This National Championship will be played under 2011-2012 NCAA Women’s Basketball Rules, except where amended by the AAU Girls Basketball Handbook. Please visit www.aaugirlsbasketball.org and click on the Rules/Info tab, then Rules/Handbook.
PRACTICE SCHEDULING:
Practice times will be assigned in conjunction with registration on July 13. Additional practice will be available throughout the tournament. Contact Tournament Director for details.
PRACTICE AND GAME BALLS:
Basketballs are provided during practice sessions. Rawlings, the official ball of AAU Girls Basketball, shall provide basketballs for warm-ups and games. Do not bring basketballs to games.
HOME & VISITOR UNIFORMS:
The top team on the bracket or the first team listed on the pool play pairings shall be the home team and shall wear white. Players’ jerseys must have numbers on both the front and back. Numbers can be 00-99. Minimum size of numbers shall be 2" on the front and 4" on the back. Teams competing in National Championship tournaments must have white and dark jerseys. Violation of this rule shall be penalized by a two (2) shot technical foul for each illegal jersey, to be assessed at the time the player with the illegal jersey enters the game.
1. Team shirts shall be of the same solid color front and back. Shirts must be tucked inside the game pants before reporting to score table.
2. Team shorts shall be alike for all players.
3. Undergarments are considered to be part of the shirt and must be a color similar to the shirt. No logos, decorations, trim, commemorative patches, lettering or numbering may be used on the undershirt. An illegal undershirt may not be worn.
4. Tights/lycra shorts that extend below the game pants must be similar in color to the pants.
5. Each player shall be numbered on the front (at least 4” high) and back (at least 6” high) of the shirt with plain Arabic numbers.
The following numbers are legal: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55 (plus 0 or 00, but not both).
6. Sponsor names are permitted so long as placed in fashion that does not obstruct uniform numbers.
7. The term “all-star” is not permitted on team uniforms.
8. It is recommended that all teams bring a white jersey and a dark colored jersey to all games. All uniforms should be designed for girls (female cut). If teams wear low-cut tank-top game jerseys, it is recommended that they have a T-shirt of similar color worn underneath.
ELIGIBILITY:
Any questions pertaining to the eligibility of a player or team shall be directed to the National Chair or his designee in attendance. No member of the local Tournament Committee shall have the authority to rule on eligibility. The AAU Girls’ Basketball Eligibility Committee will handle all of these matters.
PROTESTS:
For National Championship play, any eligibility protest that is turned in the first day of competition by 6:00 pm will be reviewed by the eligibility committee, and a decision will be made prior to bracket play. Any eligibility protest that comes after the first day of competition will be reviewed at the Eligibility Committee’s discretion. All non-eligibility protests will be reviewed by the Eligibility Committee at their discretion.
A fee of $100.00 cash (refunded if protest is upheld) must accompany all protests. Protests must come from a non-athlete member listed on the official online roster for the event. The written protest must be submitted to the National Commissioner-in-Charge. All decisions of the Eligibility Committee shall be final.
AWARDS:
Each athlete and registered coach on the top ten finishing teams in the Championship Bracket will receive a finalist medal and a team trophy. Each athlete and registered coach on the top four finishing teams in the Classic Bracket will receive a finalist medal and a team trophy.
CEREMONIES:
Opening Ceremonies will take place on July 13, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at the Cintas Center on the Campus of Xavier University. (1624 Herald Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45207) Athletes and coaches should wear their uniforms or warm-ups. Teams may carry a team banner and/or State flag. NO HATS OR BACKPACKS ALLOWED. THERE WILL BE NO THROWING OF OBJECTS.
